The contents of this portfolio are some of the first paintings I had ever created. Through my freshman and sophomore year of high school, I encountered a shift in my perception of beauty. This portfolio of work, my first ever, is a general statement on a child’s relationship with beauty, and how that changes/is different throughout time. I purposefully didn’t compose the portraits of children because although this focuses on my relationship from a child to a teenager, it will be the same once I reach the next stages of my life, so painting adults is a universal youth in my eyes.

The contents of this portfolio are from my Junior Year Independent Study to investigate the representation of women throughout history. My exploration of feminism focuses on the specific style of the time and the societal expectations of the period. I especially focus on detail, realism, and shadowing through color theory to develop my art better and learn more about my own abilities/the techniques of the artists from the period I am studying. For each painting, I researched the periods to get a big picture of the gender roles in that era. I then dove into how women were seen and what kind of power they possessed, as well as looking into different art pieces created during that time for my inspiration.
